On Wednesday Nov 11 five volunteers from M Luis Construction Co., Inc., worked along side Open Doors Food Pantry (ODFP) volunteers to pack 250 Thanksgiving dinners destined for Howard County families in need.  M Luis also provided the funding for the meals. But the help, and the work, didn’t stop there.

On the Friday and Saturday before Thanksgiving, with help from more M Luis volunteers, ODFP distributed food to 301 families, more than double the number served Thanksgiving of 2019. Volunteer drivers from Columbia Town Center Rotary, delivered groceries, Thanksgiving dinner boxes and turkeys to 25 families who had no way to pick-up food. In all, the ODFP distributed 250 Thanksgiving dinner boxes, and had enough groceries for all 301 families seeking food at our drive-thru distribution on November 20 and 21 at Highland’s Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where Open Doors Food Pantry is located.

“On behalf of the Open Doors Food Pantry and Columbia Town Center Rotary, we sincerely thank M Luis Construction, Inc. for your sponsorship and volunteer help to provide food to hungry families in November. [Earlier in the month] your volunteer team helped pre-pack 250 Thanksgiving dinner boxes, and your generous financial support was critical to this project. The volunteers who helped load the cars on Friday [Nov 20], and register new families on Saturday [Nov 21], were also greatly appreciated. Thanks to the owners and all of the volunteers. We enjoyed meeting every one of you and serving together with you. You helped make a difference to many families. We look forward to our next opportunity to serve the community together,” said Sharon Waligora, CTC Rotary Food Pantry Service Coordinator and ODFP Board Member.
